Our ABE Appreciation this month focuses on the tireless science ambassadorship Dr. Phil Smith brings to ABE and the STEM community in the UK. Phil’s humor and energy have livened up countless virtual and in-person meetings (you may remember his “skeleton selfie” from our ABE Site Advice slides earlier this year). Phil’s focus on keeping teachers connected with scientists and the amazing work being done in the field is a hallmark of his work. Phil demonstrates a deep commitment to equity and access to the sciences, reaching out to underresourced schools and teachers and ensuring ABE resources are not reserved solely for the students who are already at the top. Phil brings a fresh sense of wonder and awe to everyone he works with, sparking excitement and engagement in the natural world and its potential (check out his Twitter feed for a few examples at @tsnphil). We are lucky to have Phil’s humor, sense of perspective, and deep love of science enriching our ABE community!
